Exercise 44. Paraphrase the following sentences according to the example:

WILL / WOULD in conditionals.

Exercise 46. Translate into Russian. Mind that will in clauses of condition expresses willingness, consent, and would denotes an unreal action referring to the future with an additional meaning of wish, politeness, and emphasis.

Example: I think I’ll go and watch the telly if you’ll excuse me.

Exercise 47. Create the sentences of unreal condition using would to make the sentence more emphatic.

Exercise 48. Translate into English.

Exercise 49. Translate into Russian. Mind that were to in clauses of condition denotes that the action referring to the future is very unlikely.

Example: If he were to leave tomorrow, they would feel offended.

1. I would be delighted if Mr. Kane were to join the board. 2. Do you think you could manage the job alone if I were to take a leave of absence? 3. If our forefathers were suddenly to meet us, we should think them very strange people. 4. If you were to become the assistant manager, you'd be allowed to go in by the front entrance. 6. It wouldn't do any harm if she were to see them. 7. Exercise 50. Put the verbs in brackets into the correct form using were to.

Exercise 51. Answer the questions. Use the form were to and add a sentence of your own. Follow the example. Make use of some suggested phrases.

Example: Would you recognize him if you met him in 20 years?

If I were to meet him in 20 years, I should probably not recognize him.

SHOULD in conditionals.

Exercise 53. Translate into Russian. Mind that should in clauses of condition makes the condition more doubtful or very polite, and refers to the future.

Example: If you should want to see me tonight, ring me up.
