Bashkir State University

The Bashkir State University was founded in 1957 on the basis of the Bashkir State Pedagogical Institute on September 1, 1957.

At present it is an important center of science, education and culture in the Republic of Bashkortostan. And it ranks among the top ten classical universities of the Russian Federation.

At present it comprises 15 faculties and three branches located in Sibai, Neftekamsk and Sterlitamak which train teachers in many subjects and specialists in different fields of science and branches of industry. They are: The Biology faculty, the Geography faculty, the Physics faculty, the Mathematics faculty, the Faculty of Romance and German Philology, the Philosophy faculty, the Economy faculty, the Institute of Law, the Bashkir Philology faculty, the Sociology and Philosophy faculty, the faculty of Psychology.

Many talented professors and a lot of Masters of Science work at the University. They deliver lectures, conduct practical classes and seminars. Besides, they are working at various scientific problems of our time.

Our students have well-equipped laboratories, reading-rooms, libraries which provide them with text-books, instructions, literature on special subjects.

Young people from different parts of our republic, irrespective of their nationality, sex, social position study at the University. For those who want to combine work with studies there's an extra-mural department. More than 16.000 students are enrolled at the full-time department, with 5.000 students studying part-time. The University provides postgraduate training in 38 specialties. It's for those students who have displayed their abilities as research workers.

Tuition is free of charge for half of the students. They get scholarship every month. And there're also commercial students. Some brilliant students get special scholarships if the study well all the 5 years.

The students of the University spend a lot of time together after classes. They go in for sports, take active part in social activities. There's a large number of student societies and clubs at their disposal.

The Bashkir State University participates in international integration activities, student exchange programs, cooperating with universities of the USA, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria.

The University is justly proud of its graduates. More than 60,000 specialists have been trained here since 1957 thus contributing significantly to Russia's intellectual potential.
