ЗАДАНИЕ 6. Прочитайте текст к теме «Student Life».

I am Alexander. I am 17 years old. I was born on the 5th of March 2002 in Kursk. Now I study at the State Technical University. I am a first-year student and study at the day-time department.

My parents are architects by education. My father works as a head of restoration department at the art gallery. He is responsible for preservation and restoration of exhibits. My mother is a journalist at a local newspaper. She specializes in design. She is often busy with her work.

As for me I entered the Faculty of Architecture and Town Planning because I want to understand the world of art, design and architecture. I get a very good standard of education and I like my studies a lot now.

Now let me describe my student life. The academic year at the University is divided into two terms: from September to January and from February to July. At the end of each term students take several exams and credit tests. If students pass examinations successfully they get a scholarship. But a part of the students have to pay the university fees.

Twice a year students have vacations. In summer I spend holidays with my family or friends.

Students are divided into academic groups. There are 30 people in our group. As a rule we study six days a week: on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Every day we have lectures and practical classes. We study different subjects such as: Maths, Architecture, Drawing, Descriptive Geometry, Geodesy and Architecture, Spatial-Compositional Modeling, English, History of Arts, Information Technology and others. Usually I do not miss my classes because I want to pass my exams well.

Students spend from six to eight hours at the University. My classes begin at half past eight or ten past ten o’clock in the morning. The day is divided into different pairs of classes which continue on throughout the day, and each pair is two 45 minute classes with a five minute break in the middle. At twenty five to two we have a big interval for lunch. That is the time to share the latest news with my friends. We often have lunch in a small cafeteria. You can buy sandwiches, pizzas, fruit and drinks here. We also have short breaks that last for ten minutes between classes.

From time to time I have to stay at the University till late in the evening because I go to the library to read up for seminars or to write a report. As a rule I have little spare time on weekdays. So by the end of the week I get very tired.

I live in a rented room not far from the University. My landlady is very nice and friendly.

In the evenings and on Sundays (Sunday is my day off) when I have free time I go out. I go for a walk with my friends, go to the cinema. When the weather is fine I like a ride in the country to have a picnic.

I'm fond of reading books and painting. They give me more knowledge of people’s lives and feelings and broaden out my outlook. In my opinion, books are a source of emotional inspiration and romantic feeling. Besides, books help me to continue my education. And of course I like music! It gives me much delight and pleasure. I enjoy playing the guitar. I am also a great theatre-goer. Whenever I have some time to spare, I go to the theatre. I'm not keen on television.

I also like roller-skating and biking. I want to learn mountain skiing and snowboarding for health and pleasure. Twice a month I go to my home town by train, bus or car to visit my parents.

In conclusion I would like to tell you about things I hope to achieve in my life: to have a very successful career, to build the home of my dreams and to find someone in my life to share all that with. So, there is a lot of work to do but I enjoy it.
