6. Summarize the text using task №3 (Unit 2) as a model. Unit 6

  1. Read these international words and try to understand their meaning: system, congress, modality, signal, information, transmission, component, integration, processor, specifically, function, mobility, compact, design.

  2. Study the Russian equivalents for the English words and word combinations:

echo - эхо; повторное изображение; отражённый сигнал,

resolution - разрешающая способность; разрешение (число точек на единицу длины или площади, в компьютерной графике, телевидении и т.д.),

aperture - апертура, раствор, расходимость (оптического пучка); кадровое окно; (световой) вырез,

microcircuit - микросхема; интегральная схема (ИС),

crisp and clear - четкий и ясный,

consumption - потребление; затрата, издержки, расход; 2D = two dimensional, в двух измерениях, двумерный, vessel - сосуд,

frame rate - скорость кадра,

storage - сохранение кадра,

fetus, foetus - (утробный) плод,

console panel layout - пульт управления, приборная доска.

3. Read the text and summarize it using task №4 (Unit 1) as a model:

New diagnostic ultrasound system

The system, named ProSound alpha 5, was exhibited at 14th World Congress on Ultrasound from 31 August - 4 September 2004, Stockholm, Sweden.

As an imaging modality, image quality is the essential factor for diagnostic ultrasound system. Aloka with the proSound technology, which transmits and receives noise-free signals, provides diagnostic information in a pure sound field. With harmonic echo, in particular, proSound creates high-resolution, high-sensitivity images only from harmonic components, taking advantage of its wide aperture and pure sound transmission features.

The preeminent image quality is necessary for ultrasound diagnosis. Aloka's advanced microcircuit technology provides the large-scale integration of the electronic circuit allowing creation of the high-density digital front-end. The resulting crisp and clear image quality will contribute to efficient and accurate examinations.

"We have developed a unique high-speed digital processor specifically for ultrasonic signal processing. The highly integrated processor delivers a compact front end with the SSD-5500SV's processing capabilities, while reducing power consumption by 40%" said Mr. Yoshihiro Yoshikawa, PhD., President of Aloka.

One of the first users of the ProSound alpha 5 technology, Professor Seth Granberg, a head of ultrasound unit, University Hospital Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden quoted as "It was impressive to see such an excellent 2D resolution on different wall layers. Even in very small vessels, fantastic Doppler sensitivity allowed us to have precise values. Furthermore, even in the very first day of use, it was easy to operate because of its simple intuitive user interface. Excellent for daily use in the radiology department."

The system is also featuring up-to-date functions, which include:

D-THE (definitive tissue harmonic echo),

MBP (multi-beam processing) attains a high frame rate and is ideal for observing fast-moving anatomy,

iDMS (intelligent data management system) provides easy storage and management of images/patient information designed to support smooth digital communication,

FAM (real-time free angular M-mode) and 3D display, simple console panel layout and high mobility with compact system design.
