6. Answer the questions, using the information from the text:

  1. You are arriving in the UK from Copenhagen. You have 375cc/ml of toilet water. Will you have to pay duty?

  2. You are flying from Milan to Birmingham. You want to buy perfume without paying duty. How much can you buy at the duty-free shop at Milan Airport?

  3. You are going to London for three weeks. Will you have to pay duty on your camera?

  4. You are going to fly from Marseilles to London. You want to buy some Sauterne (white wine) at a shop in Marseilles before you go to the airport. How much can you take to London duty-free?

  5. You and your family (2 adults and 2 teenagers of 16 and 18) are going to travel from Moscow to Liverpool to visit friends. How much in the tobacco line, perfume line and spirits are you all allowed to bring in?

Unit 2

The Customs Regulations of Russia

1 .Read the text concerning the Customs regulation of Russia and find out the similar and different features with the Custom regulations of the UK:

Prohibited articles: Photographs and printed matter directed against the Russian Federation, weapons and ammunition, narcotics, fruit, vegetables and live animals unless with a special permit.

Arms, works of art and antiques (unless permission has been granted by the Ministry of Culture), precious metals and furs are not allowed for export.

Permitted articles: Natural persons may import in their accompanied or unaccompanied luggage the goods (with the exception of transport means), with total price of not more than 65 thousand rubles and with total weight not more than 35 kg., the sum of currency which doesn’t exceed $10,000. This includes any combination of foreign currency, traveler's checks, rubles (Russian money) or foreign-certified currencies.

A natural person who has reached 17 years old, may bring in/bring out at one time without paying customs duties and taxes: only 2 liters of alcohol beverages (from 21 years), not more than 250 g of caviar or sturgeon and tobacco items (cigars - up to 50 pieces, cigarillos - up to 100 pieces, cigarettes - up to 200 pieces, tobacco - 0.25 kg. In case of importation of tobacco items of one type only it is allowed to bring in 100 cigars, 200 cigarillos, 400 cigarettes and 0.5 kg of tobacco.

The goods for personal use in the territory of the Russian Federation during the period of their temporary stay.

Restricted articles (must be declared):

Travelling into Russia (import): The value of goods you have exceeds 65,000 rubles. The total sum of cash on hand is greater than $10,000. Have more than 2 liters of alcohol, more than 50 cigars, 100 cigarillos or 200 cigarettes. Any sort of weapon of firearm. Caviar or sturgeon with a quantity exceeding 250 grams.

When Leaving Russia (export): Cash totals exceeding $10,000 Rubles exceeding $3,000 Precious jewels or metals of any kind, excluding jewelry Weapons and ammunition Narcotics Cultural valuables such as music instruments, art and antiques Poisons or toxic gas Nuclear substance Wildlife under the threat of extinction Caviar or sturgeon in quantities exceeding 250 grams.
