17. My Favourite Book
Daniel Defoe was born in London in 1660, probably in September, third child and first son of James and Mary Defoe. Daniel received a very good education, as his father hoped he would become ministers, but Daniel wasnt interested. His family was Dissenters, Presbyterians to be precise, and those sects were being persecuted a bit at this time, so maybe Daniel had the right idea. He was always very tolerant of others religious ideas himself.
My favourite book is "Robinson Crusoe" by Daniel Defoe. D. Defoe (1660—1731) was a great master of realistic detail. The novel "Robinson Crusoe" was written in 1719. The novel is praise to human labour and the triumph of man over nature.
Defoe shows the development of his hero. At the beginning of the story we see an inexperienced youth, a rather frivolous boy, who then becomes a strong-willed man.
Robinson Crusoe's most characteristic trait is his optimism. His guiding principle in life become "never say die" and "in trouble to be troubled is to have your troubles doubled".
He had confidence in himself and in man. He believed it was within the power of man to overcome all difficulties. Crusoe was an enthusiastic worker and always hoped for the best.
Defoe is a writer of the Enlightenment. He teaches people how to live, he tries to teach what's good and what's bad. His novel "Robinson Crusoe" is not only a work of fiction, an account of adventures, a biography and an educational pamphlet.
It is a study of man, a great work showing man in relation to nature and civilization as well as in relation to labour and private property.
The history of Robinsons life on the island is a story about creative work of a man, about his courage, his will, creative searching. This is a hymn to labor the source of life. Thanks to his creative work Robinson Crusoe remained a man. This is most remarkable and educative significance of the novel. The novel joined the elements of biographical documentary and adventure novel. The theme of creative labor should be emphasized especially Labor helped Robinson to stay a man in inhuman conditions of his life many years lonely in an island.
18. We are so busy making a living that we forget to make a life
I truly believe that the secret to real success is to find a right balance in your life between your career and your private life.
Living in today‘s modern society, we as people seem to stress the importance of having the material things that various television commercials put so much emphasis and claim that they are the main source of happiness. We tend to think that a new tv, a computer, phone or more money can bring us true joy, and can make us very pleased with our life. The truth is – you can ask any patient who has a serious case of cancer, or a person with a disease that cannot be cured, what is the most important thing in life? I would like to think that each and every one of these people would answer similarly – Your life and they will advise you to enjoy the life, to make a close family and friends because that is the most important. Money can‘t give you that luxury. Making a life is something more valuable than making a living.
Your own wellbeing is priceless, it is something invaluable. Having a close knit family relationships is better than a new computer, having everything in check with your body beats having lots of material things. Many people forget the value of life, and only come to realization when they have nothing. These people sometimes put their jobs above everything, they do so by overworking, having a terrible diet, choosing to work late instead of going to sleep early. What I am trying to state is that some people don’t understand the value of life and don’t know precious it really is, instead they lose their health by trying to gain wealth.
Life is a journey with no destination. The destination is the end, the very end, when we shall all perish. So make your journey as pleasant and memorable as possible. Sense it, experience it and enjoy it each day. Seize the moments and make them worthy of living and remembering. You must remember “your life is not counted by the breaths that you take but by the things that you do to take others’ breathe away.” You need to reckon your life by the pleasant things that you have done for others, the enjoyable moments that you have lived and the fond memories that you can cherish.
Life is much more astonishing than you think it is. Believe that you deserve a happy life, full of abundance and strive to give yourself that life. The beautiful words of Cortia Kent have summed it appropriately- “Love the moment. Each moment is vital. Life is a succession of such moments and to live each, is to succeed.” Live life to the fullest, seize every moment and live each day as if there is no tomorrow!
To conclude I would like to mention that many people still don’t understand the true virtue of being healthy and in shape, they rather would sacrifice their precious wellbeing in order to gain material things which unlike health can be easily acquired or you can buy something new if you lose them. My opinion is simple – I truly believe that our life should be balanced!
He who enjoys the life is rich!
