Unit 9. The past perfect

9.1. Combine the two sentences to make one sentence. Use when and the past perfect.

1. I washed and got ready. I went out to meet my friends.

2. I knew much more about the job. I visited their offices.

3. I looked at the new dress for ages. I asked how much it cost.

4. I felt much more independent. I passed my driving test.

5. Liz went on holiday. She saved enough money.

6. The team finally won the match. They ran round the pitch to celebrate.

9.2. Complete these sentences with one verb in the past simple and the other in the past perfect.

1. I (be) late. The meeting (start) an hour ago.

2. They (not come), even though we (send) them a special invitation.

3. It (be) a good story, but I (hear) it before.

4. We (lose) our way. We (not know) what to do.

5. As soon as we (finish) work, we (go) home.

9.3. Look at these sentences and match questions and answers.
