Shoes Don’t Match

by Maria Leach

One day a very high Chinese judge 1 was walking along and he noticed that he was limping 2. He was not a lame man. Why did he limp? His leg didn’t even hurt. So he looked down at his feet. Right away he saw what the matter was. His shoes didn’t match! One was a fine boot with a rather high heel 3. The other was less dressy – and flat 4.

So he told the clerk who attended him to go home and hurry back with the right shoe. The clerk rushed off 5 but in a few minutes came back empty-handed. “It is no use to change your shoes,” he said sadly. “The pair at home are just like these”.
