Abstract. The article reveals the concept of the Index. We consider the index study of social and political processes. The classification of the main criteria for index construction is given. Examples of well-known international indexes are also considered to reveal mechanisms and variables used for analysis and construction.

Abstract. The paper presents an attempt to describe value and specific meanings of higher education in professional and educational strategies of current students. The empirical resources of the analysis were the materials of group interviews conducted in the spring of 2016 among the students of Murmansk Arctic State University.
