1. The system of courts in the Russian Federation

The judicial system of the Russian Federation consists of courts at the federal level and regional courts. The federal courts are: the constitutional court (the highest judicial body in the RF and decided the most important issues related to the constitution) and courts of general jurisdiction. Courts of general jurisdiction are: The Supreme court of the RF (it has jurisdiction as a court of cassation i.e. the highest court of appeal in the land. There are three chambers in the structure of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation: Judicial Chamber on Civil Cases; Judicial Chamber on Criminal Cases; and Military Chamber). Military courts consider disputes involving military personnel. Until 2014, there was a higher court of appeal, but then it was unified with the Supreme court.

Regional courts are: Constitutional Courts (or Charter Courts) of the Subjects of the Russian Federation, Courts of the subjects of the Russian Federation, district courts, Justices of the peace and arbitration courts.

Судебная система Российской Федерации состоит из судов федерального уровня и региональных судов. К федеральным судам относятся: конституционный суд (высший судебный орган в РФ, решающий наиболее важные вопросы, связанные с конституцией) и суды общей юрисдикции. Суды общей юрисдикции: Верховный суд РФ (он обладает юрисдикцией как кассационный суд, то есть высшая апелляционная инстанция в стране. В структуре Верховного суда Российской Федерации три палаты: Судебная палата по Гражданские дела; Судебная коллегия по уголовным делам; Военная палата). Военные суды рассматривают споры с участием военнослужащих. До 2014 года была высшая апелляционная инстанция, но затем она была объединена с Верховным судом.

К областным судам относятся: конституционные суды (или уставные суды) субъектов Российской Федерации, суды субъектов Российской Федерации, районные суды, мировые судьи и арбитражные суды.
