The history of my department

My department was founded in 1938 and the aim was to train specialists for manufacturing and designing of tracked vehicles. The head of the department was Mikhail Konstantinivich Kristy. He had been a chief for almost 30 years (1938 - 1965). Mikhail Konstantinivich and his colleagues conducted a lot of various researches and wrote some books on tracked vehicles. His books are devoted to the design and testing of tracked vehicles, especially tanks.

When the Second World War began, the graduates of the department gained a good reputation as tank engineers.

After the Second World War the department had highly-qualified teachers. Some of them had both battle experience and manufacturing experience as well ((Н.А. Забавников, В.И. Красненьков).

In 1962 the department presented hydrolic volume transmission (гидрообъёмная трансмиссия), which was the result of scientific cooperation with The Mining Institute named after Sochinskiy. The invention was used in tractors K-700 produced by Kirovskey plant (which Kirovskey plant produced). The hydraulic volume transmission became a trigger for many other industrial innovations.

Famous scientists and prominent engineers worked and conducted their researches in my department. As I have already mentioned Kristy who grounded the basic principles of tracked vehicle design and testing.

A.A. Plugnian (A.A. Плунгян) investigated the dynamic loads in transmissions.

R. K. Vaphin (Р.К. Вафин) is famous for his researches of reliability and durability under real operation conditions.

Today the department is conducting researches in the theory of motion, stability and controllability of tracked vehicles. The professors are seriously improving the technology of manufacturing and testing of tracked vehicles.

The department offers the Specialist’s degree and I think it’s great as students have enough time to study their field really well.
