Даны тексты и статьи по теме «Business English for Students of Technical Universities», отобранные на основе оригинальных английских и американских источников. Тексты и статьи адаптированы (сокращены), структурированы в два тематических модуля, каждый из которых разбит на несколько разделов, позволяющих логически структурировать весь материал соответствующей тематики, последовательно раскрывая основные аспекты деловых отношений будущих инженеров. Каждый раздел включает в себя тексты, которые сопровождаются специальными упражнениями на понимание их содержания и работу с новой лексикой, а также творческие задания.

Предназначено для аудиторной и внеаудиторной работы студентов II курса технических вузов, а также может представлять интерес для широкого круга читателей.

ВВЕДЕНИЕ

Учебное пособие «Business English for Students of Technical Universities»

(«Деловой английский язык для студентов технических вузов») представляет собой сборник текстов по некоторым аспектам деловой коммуникации будущих инженеров технических специальностей (направлений), содержит описание основных типов компаний и их структур, дает представление о принципах делового этикета, этапах поиска работы, подготовки к собеседованию и трудоустройства, а также базовые знания, необходимые для работы студентов ибудущихинженеров с научными статьями и документами.

Учебное пособие составлено на основе аутентичных текстов для обучения информативному иноязычному чтению будущих специалистов по техническим специальностям и является источником информации для получения базовых профессиональных знаний и усвоения терминов и понятий, широко используемых в процессе деловой коммуникации. Данное пособие может использоваться в обучении студентов различных учебных заведений поисково-информативному чтению на английском языке, а также ведению дискуссий и рассуждений по проблемам делового общения, описанных в текстах. Пособие включает систему упражнений, направленных на понимание содержания текстового материала, отработку лексикограмматического материала в рамках предлагаемых заданий, а также на практическое применение этого материала в коммуникативных ситуациях, связанных с профессиональной сферой деятельности.

В современном мире проблемы деловой коммуникации напрямую касаются любой технической специальности, поскольку они являются неотъемлемой частью любого предприятия во всех отраслях промышленности. Проблемы, представленные в текстах, и их содержательная составляющая охватывают основные аспекты деловых отношений, с которыми столкнутся будущие инженеры в процессе профессиональной деятельности, что обусловливает возникновение у студентов интереса в получении данной информации, а также их готовность к пониманию возможностей использования этих знаний в решении производственных задач как в крупных предприятиях, так и в небольших организациях малого бизнеса.

Учебное пособие «Business English for Students of Technical Universities»

состоит из двух модулей, соответствующих содержанию рабочей программы по дисциплине «Деловой иностранный язык»: «Module I. Business Relationships in Professional Sphere» («Деловые отношения в профессиональной сфере») и

«Module II. Business Communication for Professional and Scientific Purposes»

(«Деловая коммуникация в профессиональной и научной сфере»). Каждый модуль включает в себя ряд разделов (Units), состоящих из трех – пяти частей, которые содержат комплексы текстов, вокабуляров, предтекстовых и послетекстовых заданий, что позволяет логически структурировать весь материал соответствующей тематики, последовательно раскрывая основные аспекты деловых отношений будущих инженеров.

Вкаждом разделе предлагаются к выполнению специальные упражнения, направленные на формирование, закрепление и отработку лексических навыков студентов (Match English phrases to their Russian equivalents; Fill in the gaps with the suitable words from the box in the proper form), на понимание содержания текста (Match these headings to paragraphs; Complete the table using the information from the text) и формирование навыков говорения (Give an advice of business interaction with…; Make some recommendations for…; Give a 2-minute talk on specific aspects of running business in Russia), а также творческие задания (Make a video about…/ presentation on…).

Впроцессе работы с текстами на английском языке, предложенными в пособии, предполагается целенаправленное формирование у студентов следующих иноязычных компетенций:

•определять и обобщать основные мысли текста в процессе чтения;

•выделять, усваивать новую информацию посредством выполнения специальных устных и письменных упражнений;

•фиксировать новую профессиональную информацию в виде выписок и перевода на родной язык;

•обрабатывать полученную информацию, делая литературный перевод отрывков текстов в соответствии с нормами русского языка;

•аргументированно доказывать или опровергать некоторые утверждения, данные в упражнениях на основе материалов текстов;

•эффективно пользоваться ресурсами Интернета с целью поиска дополнительной информации, необходимой для подготовки презентации, доклада, аргументации своих суждений и доводов.

Кроме формирования, развития и совершенствования основных

иноязычных компетенций, целью данного учебного пособия является также расширение профессионального кругозора студентов, который позволит будущим инженерам иметь четкое представление об основных аспектах деловых отношений, что способствует систематизации знаний и их успешному применению в профессиональной деятельности.

1A. Enumerate the areas and industries where engineers are in demand:

1B. Read the following statement about engineers:

A job for YOU in any industry: solving problems and changing lives.

Think and say what industries and companies you can find a job at. What personal qualities and skills do you need to get such a job?

Task 2. Read the profile below. What do you think it describes: A. Team lead or B. Technical assistant? Why do you think so?

I am a motivated and dynamic individual. I am well-organized and have good time management skills. I can work to deadlines, and cope calmly under pressure. I am a good team member and can handle problems with tact.

I also have a proven track record of successful leadership of groups, and can delegate in a respectful and professional manner. I have a consistent approach to managing projects as well as an experience of working on largescale projects.

I am fluent in English, and have a basic working knowledge of German. I am highly computer-literate with an in-depth knowledge of computer graphics. Over a five-year period, I have built up a sound understanding of the industry.

Tips:

Compare the pronunciation of the following verbs and nouns and pronounce them: to delegate /ˈdel.ɪ.ɡeɪt/ – a delegate /ˈdel·ɪ·ɡət/

Task 10A. Prepare a written “portrait” of an in-demand professional using the information obtained in Task 9. Present it to your groupmates.

To emphasize a tendency, use “tend to”, “to be (un)likely to”((мало)вероятно, что)
