Our institute
I’m a first-year student of the National Research University (Moscow Power Engineering Institute, or MPEI for short). It is a Russian higher education institution offering training in the fields of Power Engineering, Electric Engineering, Radio Engineering, Electronics, Information Technologies and management. MPEI was founded in 1930, and since 2011 it has obtained the status of National Research University. For 90 years of its activity, MPEI has prepared more than 200 thousands of specialists. Among them are academicians, state prize laureates, heads of ministries and enterprises, politicians, cosmonauts, prominent cultural figures, members of government and even Heads of State of various foreign countries. The most famous graduates of MPEI are the ex-Chairman of the State Council of China Li Peng and the ex-President of Romania Ion Iliescu.
MPEI partners in science and education include about 200 foreign universities, and such well-known companies like ABB, Siemens, Schneider Electric, EPRI, Skoda, Samsung and others.
The rector of MPEI is Nikolay Dmirtievich Rogalev. He is a Russian scientist and energetics researcher.
At MPEI there are 12 Institutes, 59 departments, more than 100 scientific and research laboratories, research construction bureau and test factory, educational Solar Power Plant. Also there is the biggest scientific technical library countrywide, stadium "Energia" and a swimming pool. The MPEI's Palace of Culture is very popular with the students. The newspaper "Power Engineer", the "Radio MPEI" and the "MPEI TV" are all part of students' cultural ambience.
MPEI provides educational programs at Bachelor, Specialist, Master and PhD level. Now more than 15000 undergraduate and 500 postgraduate students are trained at MPEI. Among them there are 1700 foreign students and trainees from more than 65 countries. The teaching staff includes 1500 professors, associate professors and lecturers. The Study Campus is in Moscow Lefortovo district.
The study week consists of 6 working days. In the first years' vacation time students can participate in the construction camp work and in the senior years practice work at the enterprises is compulsory. Getting the unique training in any chosen field, MPEI graduates never have problems with subsequent employment and realize themselves in any chosen sphere.
The students' interests at MPEI are defended by the Students' Union. Its tasks are to maintain the quality of education, to supervise the conditions of the hostel, to provide leisure events and to distribute financial support among the persons who need it.
The Student Cultural Society of MPEI was created in 2009. With the help of MPEI officials it implements the personal, creative and spiritual and moral ideas of MPEI students into traditional events such as "First-years' " nights, Night Disco "Energy Fir-Tree", annual show contests "First-years' Lady", "Mr. MPEI" and "Ms. MPEI" and others. Every year more than 1000 students of MPEI take part in events organized by the Student Cultural Society.
MPEI is an actual member of many international associations, for example UNESCO, International Association for Continuous Engineering Education, Wind Energy Association, European Association for International Education, Association of International Departments of Technical Universities of Central and Eastern Europe and others.
